USA: Lockheed to Provide Engineering Services for US Navy Undersea Warfare System

Equipment & technology

Lockheed has been awarded a contract to provide engineering services in support of the US Navy’s AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 undersea warfare system.

The $13.4m contract is a modification to a previously awarded contract by the US Navy for work on the warfare system.

The AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 is a surface ship combat system with capabilities that can be used to search, detect, classify, localise and track undersea contacts.

The undersea warfare system is also capable of engaging and evading submarines, mine-like small objects, and torpedo threats.

Work will be carried out at the company’s facilities in New York, Rhodes Island and Virginia, US, and is expected to be complete by September 2011.

The US Naval Sea Systems Command will be the contracting activity.
