FS COURBET Completes Participation in Operation ATALANTA

On July 28th, after sixty days proudly serving under the European Flag, the French Frigate FS COURBET completed her participation as an EU NAVFOR warship in Operation ATALANTA.

During the period, FS Courbet has conducted a multiplicity of tasks in the force, primarily conducting the EU NAVFOR’s main mission of escorting World Food Programme and AMISOM’s shipping into Somalia.
On departure from Operation ATALANTA, the Force Commander, Commodore Alberto Correia expressed his sincere gratitude to FS Courbet’s crew for the valuable support they gave to EU NAVFOR and to Operation ATALANTA: “…you should feel proud of your ship and about the contribution you have played in the success of Operation ATALANTA”.

EUNAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). EUNAVFOR also protects vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, deters and disrupts piracy and monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
