HMCS Corner Brook to Sail Again

A Virginia-Class submarine ran aground in Vancouver Islands’s Nootka Sound last year resulting in a large hole in the hull.

The hole is in the outer fibreglass shell and does not affect the structural integrity of the submarine’s crucial pressure hull, according to the navy.

Canada’s top military official says that the large hole in the front of HMCS Corner Brook is not as bad as it looks.

“It looks more serious than it truly is, from what I’ve been told by the navy,” Chief of the Canadian defense staff said. “We’ll have that submarine back up . . . to full operational capability in the fullness of time.”
He confirmed that the submarine will be repaired and back in service in 2016, reports the Canada.
