Chief of Naval Operations Engages Naval Chiefs at DIMDEX 2012

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert attended the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition (DIMDEX) 2012 naval exhibition March 26, to engage the maritime defense leadership of the more than 70 nations in attendance at the biennial event.

“This is a means for us to get together with international industry and defense industry to see what we need,” Greenert remarked on the overall role of DIMDEX. “It’s a great opportunity for me to meet with my fellow heads of Navy who gather here and talk about the future-what we think is important and where we think future opportunities may present themselves.”

Greenert met with several heads of Navy from the region to talk about strategic alignment to promote increased maritime security and counter-terrorism measures in the region to eliminate common threats such as piracy and smuggling.

Greenert said he was grateful to the nation and people of Qatar for being such gracious hosts and for organizing such an important event that gathers representatives from all of the Gulf States at the same time.

“Coalitions are so important,” Greenert said. “Building partnership capacity is also very important, particularly in this region.”

This year’s DIMDEX marked the third annual exhibition with 150 vendors offering new weapons systems and patrol craft.
