Sri Lankan Navy Arrests 12 Persons Engaged in Illegal Fishing

Naval troops attached to SLNS Gajaba of the North-central Naval Command arrested 12 persons engaged in illegal fishing using explosives on 14th April 2012.

Five persons with a fish catch of 678 kilograms were arrested at the Pallemunai Fishing Marshalling Point whilst seven persons were taken in by Naval Vessel P 213 at Thalpadu with a fish catch of 1847 kilograms. The arrested persons along with fish catch, 03 fishing nets and 03 FGDs in their possession were handed over to Assistant Fisheries Director in Mannar for further investigations.
