Commander Submarines Allied Naval Forces South Holds Change of Command Ceremony

On May 31, Allied Maritime Commander Vice Admiral Rinaldo Veri, Italian Navy, hosted the Change of Command Ceremony of Commander Submarines, Allied Naval Forces South (COMSUBSOUTH) at his Headquarters.

Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Commander, U.S. European Command, Admiral James Stravidis, United States Navy, presided over the ceremony where Rear Admiral James G. Foggo, III United States Navy, handed over his Command to Rear Admiral Frederick J. Roegge, United States Navy.

During the same ceremony Roegge assumed responsibilities as Director of Operations, Intelligence, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa and Deputy Commander, U.S. 6th Fleet.

Outgoing Commander RAdm Foggo was awarded by Adm. Stravidis with the NATO Meritorious Service Medal for his supporting efforts in U.S. and NATO operations throughout Europe and Africa.

Commander Submarines Allied Naval Forces South (COMSUBSOUTH) along with Commander Maritime Air Naples (COMARAIRNAPLES) are the two former NATO Commands, classified as “Special Entities” responsible to COM MC Naples for the conduct of maritime submarine and air operations.
