Rear Admiral Takes Over as COS, ENC

Rear Admiral Bimal Kumar Verma, AVSM took over as the Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command from Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, AVSM yesterday, 29 Oct 12. In the course of his distinguished career, Rear Admiral BK Verma has held various Command, Staff and Operational Appointments.

Rear Admiral BK Verma is an alumnus of the 55th course of National Defence Academy and was adjudged the best Naval Cadet in his 6th term.  He was commissioned in the Indian Navy on 01 Jan 1980 and post-specialisation in Communication and Electronic Warfare, he has held a variety of appointments ashore and afloat.

Amongst his important ashore appointments, the Flag Officer has been the Principal Director Naval Operations at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy), Naval Attaché in Tehran, Iran and Captain Sea Training at Visakhapatnam, INTEG and has also served with the Signal Intelligence Organisation.

Rear Admiral Verma’s noteworthy afloat appointments include commissioning crew of INS Viraat, Signal Communication Officer of INS Ganga and Fleet Communication Officer of Western Fleet.  He has also been the commanding Officer of IN Ships Shardul, Magar, Ranjit and Mysore.  Prior to taking over as the Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, the Flag Officer held appointments as Flag Officer Doctrines & Concepts, Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra and Gujarat Naval Area, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (IW & Ops) and as Flag Officer AOB/AOB Project.

 Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, the outgoing Chief of Staff, will proceed on transfer as the Commandant, National Defence College at New Delhi.
