Iranian Naval Task Force Anchors in Sudan

An Iranian naval task force, comprising  the Shaheed Naqdi, a corvette-class vessel, and the Kharg, a supply vessel, headed for Sudan has reached its destination on Monday morning, MNA reported.

The overall objective of the visit is extending a message of piece and collaboration on fighting “against marine terrorism and piracy”.

Iran has been involved in activities aimed at combating piracy since 2008, when one of its own cargo ships, the MV Delight, was attacked off the coast of Yemen.

The visit comes in the aftermath of an attack from a week ago, on an arms factory on the outskirts of Khartoum in which at least two people were killed and surrounding property extensively damaged, the Saudi Gazzete writes.  As reported, the Sudanese blame Israeli jets for the attack on the factory, which is said to have been building Iranian ballistic surface-to-surface Shehab missiles under license from Tehran.

Israel has kept silent on the matter.
