Sri Lanka Navy Rescues Two Fishermen

Sri Lanka Navy rescued two fishermen who were in unstable condition in the Eastern deep sea on 14th December 2012. They were brought to the Trincomalee Naval Hospital for medical treatment.

The fishermen had been among the 4-member crew of a multi-day fishing trawler named “Kawindi”, which had left for fishing from Mirissa Fisheries Harbour on 05th Octomber 2012. The trawler had capsized at deep seas East of Trincomalee. Two of its fishermen had been rescued by a fishing trawler named “Aloka” while they were on the floating boat in a critical condition. The Navy was informed of the incident by Aquatic and Fisheries Department and action was taken to bring the fishermen ashore for medical treatment.

Following the instructions sent by the Naval Headquarters, the Eastern Naval Command directed SLNS Suranimala to bring the fishermen ashore.
