Greater Western Sydney Giants Coach Kicks off 816 Squadron's Training Day

Greater Western Sydney Giants coach and AFL legend Kevin Sheedy kicked off a recent visit to the Shoalhaven in style when he arrived at HMAS Albatross in a Navy Bell 429 helicopter.

Kevin Sheedy, accompanied by Giants player Dom Tyson, was at Albatross to deliver the keynote address for the 816 Squadron Training Day.

816 Commanding Officer, CMDR Grant O’Loughlan said it was invaluable having a person of Kevin’s calibre and experience address the Squadron and that his key messages were just as relevant to those working on an airfield as a football field.

“Personnel got to hear the viewpoint of a well known and respected individual who has been performing at the top level over a long period.” CMDR O’Loughlan said. “The message that leadership is fundamental to everything we do was a very important one for us.

LCDR Simon Levy, who arranged for Kevin Sheedy to address the Squadron after learning that GWS were planning a promotional visit to the Shoalhaven, said his presence was a great addition to the Squadron’s training program.

“816 absolutely loved it. He challenged us all to think differently. His personal insights on leadership were invaluable and one important take home message for me was the value of following through on your ideas and not stopping until you change what needs to be changed.”
