The Philippine Navy Marks 115th Anniversary

The Philippine Navy (PN) was established on May 20, 1898 during the second phase of the Philippine Revolution when General Aguinaldo formed the Revolutionary Navy which was initially composed of a small fleet of eight Spanish steam launches captured from the Spaniards.

For more than a century of invaluable service to the Filipino people, its strategies have advanced the organization in its journey towards becoming a strong and credible force that our maritime nation can be proud of.

The 115th PN Anniversary celebration was held last May 21, 2013 at Naval Station Pascual Ledesma (NSPL), Fort San Felipe (FSF), Cavite City. This commemoration demonstrated and depicted the PN’s strategic capability and advocacy. With its theme, “NAVY: An Adventure of Honorable Service to our Maritime Nation” the event was graced by Pres. Benigno Simeon Aquino III, as the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker. The Arrival Honors for the guest of honor and the 21 Gun Salute rendered signaled the start of the big event.

The awarding of the deserving officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees that contributed to the PN mission’s accomplishment and the simultaneous recitation of the first ever Philippine Navy pledge has been the highlight of the celebration. It also involved the inauguration of the FSF Museum containing the rich history of the Navy and a tour at the facility showing the PN’s assets and capabilities, as well as the new equipment for better mission accomplishments. Just before the big day, a series of month-long pre-anniversary activities was conducted as a tribute for the 115 years of continuous enactment of selfless and dedicated service to the country.

For several years, the Navy has proven its worth in identifying means and ways to protect this maritime nation and to fulfill its widest dream of becoming a highly capable, credible and strong. With such various noble undertakings, the Sailors and Marines have been proud to serve and protect this Maritime Nation with the best of their abilities.

As this Command once again enters another momentous year of dedicated service to the Filipino people and to this archipelagic state, the past years of our relevant existence will be our undying guidance and instrument as we navigate forward and achieve a more constructive advocacy. In doing this, the officers and men of the Philippine Navy will live to the adventure of honorable service to this maritime nation
