Sri Lanka Navy Saves Critically Ill Fisherman in Southern Seas

The Navy rushed a critically ill fisherman to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for medical treatment having rescued him in the Southern seas on 18th June 2013.

The fisherman, a member of the crew of six onboard the fishing trawler named “Anjelo 02”, which had left for fishing from Negombo on 15th June, had suddenly taken ill whilst in the rough southern seas of Galle. In a response to a request made by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for assistance, the Naval Headquarters directed the Southern Naval Command to render assistance.

Accordingly, the fast patrol craft P 462 was dispatched to the location. Naval personnel took the patient onboard and rushed him for transfer to the hospital after providing him emergency medical treatment.
