UK Could Use Warships against Syria?

Royal Navy warship, HMS Montrose could be used to launch a military strike against Syria, if needed, according to The Herald.

HMS Montrose could be joined by an unnamed nuclear submarine. Nevertheless, the specific positions of the military assets have not been disclosed due to security reasons.

Britain could join forces with the U.S. warships that have been deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and are pending Obama’s order to launch a strike against the Syrian regime’s assets.

HMS Montrose is currently taking part in an organized Allied training in the Mediterranean, Royal Navy spokesman explained.

Type 23 Frigate HMS Montrose has recently been at sea in the South Coast Exercise Areas and off the North Scottish coast undertaking intensive unit, and Task Group, training in the form of Basic Operational Sea Training and Joint Warrior.

Earlier this month, HMS Montrose has left the UK for an annual deployment to the Mediterranean and Gulf region – Cougar ’13.

The long-planned deployment is aimed at honing  Royal Navy’s world class maritime skills thousands of miles from home through exercises with a number of key allies.
