JSK Naval Support to Bring Unique Benefits to Canadian Navy

A joint venture between established Canadian defence systems specialists Kaycom inc, and UK defence systems specialists J+S Ltd., one of the world’s leading providers of acoustic and subsea technologies, is being launched at DEFSEC Atlantic 2013.

JSK Naval Support Inc. is a new venture that builds on the joint heritage of two of the defence industry’s most successful systems specialists to deliver highly targeted, top quality services to the Royal Canadian Navy and its key contractors, covering five critical areas:

· Torpedo and Decoy Launch Systems

· Active and Passive Sonar Systems

· Towed Arrays and Ancillary Equipment

· Thin Line Arrays and Miniature Acoustic Components

· Obsolescence Management

The company, based in Quebec, will deliver specialist support to the Royal Canadian Navy for current and obsolete systems on both Victoria and Halifax class vessels.

Andy Toms, Managing Director of J+S Ltd, explains how the new venture will bring unique benefits to the Royal Canadian Navy.

“The creation of JSK will allow the DND to procure products and services from a Canadian company with international reach. JSK will employ local people and utilise local facilities but through its links with J+S Ltd in the UK will deliver naval equipment and in-service support expertise developed and optimised for the British Royal Navy. As a small company we aim to be agile and cost effective yet provide a top quality service and cutting edge products, for the mutual benefit of Canada, the Royal Canadian Navy and the company”.

Brian March, President of Kaycom Inc., believes with large programs in the pipeline, such as the Halifax Class refurbishment and the Surface Combatant Project, the RCN is going to have an increasing need to be able to quickly draw on a pool of home-grown defence systems experts that can respond to requests urgently and deliver mission-critical services locally.

“Kaycom is a very strongly established organisation with both an outstanding track record and excellent contacts within the Navy. We are delighted to be embarking on this exciting and innovative venture with J+S Ltd.”
