EU NAVFOR Arrests Suspects from First Pirate Attack in 2014
PIRATE DHOW IN THE GULF OF ADEN

The French Naval Ship FS Siroco in cooperation with Japanese assets released crewmembers from a pirated dhow on January 18th. The flagship arrested five suspected pirates believed of having attacked an oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden a day earlier.

The UK Maritime Trade Operation received a call for help from the oil tanker on 17 January. The tanker was under attack and the attack was repelled by a private armed security team onboard.

The Japanese vessel JS Samidare sent a Maritime Patrol Aircraft to locate the pirated dhow with pirates on board.

FS Siroco’s team boarded the dhow and transferred the pirates to the ship for further investigation.

EU Navfor Force Commander, Rear Admiral Herve Blejean, thanked the crews for an exceptionally effective international cooperation.
