Spanish Navy Disposes of Three Hand Grenades

The bomb disposal team of the Spanish Mine Countermeasures Divers Unit (UBMCM) disposed of  three hand grenades found off the coast of Tarragona, Spain.

A diver located the bombs off Forti de la Reina, on Saturday, in a depth of about 3.5 meters. After the Civil Guard alerted the Operations Center and the Navy Maritime Surveillance in Cartagena, a team of divers was sent to neutralize the bombs through controlled detonation. The remains of shells were removed to minimize environmental impact.

During the operation the team worked with the Maritime Service and the Civil Guard GEAS in delimiting a zone of safety at sea, and the local police in Tarragona, who managed the ground safety.
