Souda Bay, Crete Hosts USS Roosevelt

Authorities

The guided-missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80) arrived in Souda Bay, Crete, for a scheduled port visit, Oct. 24th.

Cmdr. Jason Reller, commanding officer of USS Roosevelt, said:

This port visit gives our Sailors a chance to strengthen the bonds between the U.S. and Greece through first-hand cultural experiences and interactions. It will also provide the crew with some well-deserved rest and relaxation.

Roosevelt Sailors will be given the opportunity to experience the rich culture of Crete with various tours of historical locations and regional attractions.

Crete will be Roosevelt’s first Mediterranean port visit in more than six months. Roosevelt left its home port in February as part of the George H. W. Bush Carrier Strike Group and is on a scheduled deployment supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th and 6th fleet areas of responsibility.
