USS Dewey Sailors Pay Visit to Muscat, Oman

Sailors from the guided-missile destroyer USS Dewey (DDG 105) visited Muscat, Oman during a port visit Jan. 1.

The “Mystic” tour, hosted by the ship’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) division, included visits to the city’s Grand Mosque, souk, fish market, museum and one of the Sultan’s palaces.

Aside from the tour stops, Sailors also interacted with the local Omani people.

After the four-hour tour ended, Sailors headed back to the ship with a new appreciation for the people of Oman and their culture.

Dewey is deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, strike operations in Iraq and Syria as directed, maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the region.
