USS Constellation Enters Scrap Yard

The decommissioned supercarrier USS Constellation (CV 64), once among the US Navy’s fastest vessels, arrives at its final destination – the scrap yard.

As reported by The Associated Press, the vessel reached International Shipbreaking Ltd., Brownsville, Texas, on Friday, where it will be dismantled. The navy awarded the USD 3 million worth contract to the shipyard to tow and dismantle the vessel.

The vessel entered into service in 1961 and was retired at the Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego on 7 August 2003, after a 41-year long service.
