HMS Iron Duke Recognized for Above Water Warfare

Authorities

Royal Navy’s HMS Iron Duke was recognised with the Fleet Effectiveness Award for Above Water Warfare (AWW).

This award recognises the work that the Iron Duke team has put in over the last 12-months working up for deployment, conducting Seawolf In-Service Firings and a South Atlantic Deployment.

This is not only in the regular practice and conduct of Weapon System serials, such as Medium Range Gunnery with the 4.5” Gun and the new Automated Small Calibre Gun (ASCG), but it also notes the efforts and success of the recording and reporting of these trials.

Post serial analysis is a key part of any drill or firing and Iron Duke has been leading the way in which these are returned to MCTA (Maritime Commissioning, Trials and Assessment), the RN’s independent analysis team.

This has meant the swift return of records enabling analysis to be conducted and the systems and drill procedures to be optimised.
