ITS Aliseo Welcomes NATO SNMG2 Commander on Board

Authorities

Italian Navy’s frigate Alisea, under Commander Mario Giancarlo Lauria, hosted the NATO Standing Maritime Group Two (SNMG2)’s Rear Admiral Brad Williamson on February 12 in the Adriatic Sea.

The Admiral, who arrived by helicopter from his Flagship, USS Vicksburg (CG69), spent a day on board the Aliseo to become acquainted with the work activities of the Italian Navy crew.

The visit from Admiral Williamson is the first since last February 3, when ITS Aliseo was assigned to SNMG2, an integrated multinational naval group, NATO’s Response Force under (MARCOM Northwood), a clear example of the ongoing presence and solidity of the Alliance.

ITS Aliseo and the other SNMG2 units have recently set sail from Trieste port after a stop planned to let the crew members get acquainted and create relations with the local authorities, thus strengthening their relationship with Italy, founding member of the Alliance.

In the days preceding the stop in Trieste, the units have performed multiple maritime exercises together with the Croatian Navy – as it had been previously planned during a stop in Split, including underwater and air combat.
