HMS Portland to Visit Her Namesake Port

Captain Simon Asquith OBE will sail his Type 23 frigate HMS Portland into her namesake port on Saturday March 7 for a short visit.

The ship will remain in Deep Water Berth for 4 days.

Primarily in Portland for a routine visit, HMS Portland will open to members of the public on Sunday March 8. HMS Portland will also host a number of visits on board over the weekend for Sea Cadets from Axbridge, Bridport and Taunton Units.

HMS Portland returned to Plymouth in August 14 after a successful 7 month deployment conducting counter narcotic operations whilst working alongside the embarked American Coastguard team.

Since then the ship and her crew have conducted a number of exercises to prepare her for her role as the lead Anti Submarine Warfare platform.

She last visited Portland in Nov 14 to support the Remembrance Day parades in both Portland and Weymouth.
