MARCOM Hosts ROK JFMU Delegation

A delegation from the Republic of Korea (ROK) Joint Forces Military University (JFMU), led by the President of JFMU, Major General Yoo Byung-Gill of the ROK Air Force, visited NATO Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) to discuss MARCOM’s command and control, coordination with Allied and partner nations, organisation and operations.

The delegation met with MARCOM’s Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Giorgio Lazio, received a comprehensive briefing on MARCOM’s role within the NATO command structure and its responsibilities in the maritime domain, and toured the Maritime Operations Centre (MOC).

JFMU is located in Daejeon, Republic of Korea, and is responsible for ensuring excellence in joint professional military education and research into national defence. The university educates both Korean and international officers, non-commissioned officers, and civilian personnel.

The Republic of Korea is one of NATO’s partners across the globe. Building on dialogue and cooperation that has been developed since 2005, relations were deepened with the signature of an Individual Partnership and Cooperation Programme in September 2012. Stabilising Afghanistan has been an important focus of cooperation in recent years, notably with the deployment by the Republic of Korea of a large contingent to support the NATO-led operation there.
