HMAS Rankin Concludes South East Asian Deployment

Authorities

The Submarine Force provided an inspiring welcome home for the crew of HMAS Rankin on June 4, 2015, after her recent South East Asian deployment.

HMAS Rankin came alongside Diamantina Wharf, HMAS Stirling, Rockingham, Western Australia.

Under the command of Commander Doug Theobald, Rankin participated in Exercise BERSAMA SHIELD, conducted significant underway training and international engagement activities.

The boat conducted two port visits to Singapore, providing opportunities to engage with other exercise participants and for some rest and recreation for the 60 crew members. The visits to Singapore also provided an opportunity to rotate trainees, giving the future submariners an opportunity to complete at-sea task book activities.

Rankin deployed together with HMAS Perth, a Royal Australian Air Force P3 Orion and a KA350 King Air aircraft for the 10-day exercise in the South China Sea.

The submarine will now enter a short maintenance period before preparing for its next deployment later in the year.
