Iwo Jima ARG Becomes Part of US 6th Fleet

The Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group/ 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit entered the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations June 22, 2015.

The ARG/MEU, comprised of embarked Marines from the 24th MEU, the multi-purpose amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), the amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43), and the amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21), departed the U.S. 5th Fleet’s Area of Responsibility June 21, 2015.

While in U.S. 6th fleet, the three ships of the Iwo ARG will conduct port visits in Spain, Portugal, Albania and France before returning to their homeport in Mayport, Fla.
