USS Fort McHenry Farewells Bar, Montenegro

Authorities

The Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) departed Bar, Montenegro, June 28, following a port visit.

The visit served to enhance relations between the United States and Montenegro as the two nations work together to provide a stable, secure and prosperous Europe.

During the visit, Fort McHenry hosted a reception for foreign dignitaries as a chance to communicate and enjoy the company of the U.S.’ partners abroad. Those present included U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro Margaret Ann Uyehara; Defense Attache Darren Evans; and Bar Mayor Zoran Srzentic.

Sailors from Fort McHenry and the Montenegrin Navy participated in visit, board, search and seizure training throughout the port visit, sharing techniques and tactics to help protect the world’s ocean waterways from piracy and illegal trafficking of weapons, drugs, and human cargo.

This was the first port of call for the Sailors and Marines after re-entering the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations and marked the beginning of the ship’s homeward journey after spending more than six months at sea.
