Commanders Meet aboard HMAS Newcastle

The first Japanese Naval Commander of a multi-national task force has met with Australia’s Middle East Commander, Rear Admiral Trevor Jones, onboard HMAS Newcastle as part of Operation MANITOU.

While alongside for maintenance in the Middle East, Newcastle hosted a meeting between Japanese Rear Admiral Horishi Ito, Commander Combined Task Force 151, and Rear Admiral Trevor Jones, Commander Joint Task Force 633.

The two commanders discussed current and future roles for Japanese forces, Australia’s regional command structure and future liaisons in the region.

Commander Combined Task Force 151 aims to disrupt piracy and prevent armed robbery at sea to protect global maritime commerce and secure freedom of navigation.
