ITS Andrea Doria Takes a Break in Brest, France

Italian Orizzonte class destroyer ITS Andrea Doria has made her first port of call in Brest, France, while sailing to the Hebrides for exercises “Joint Warrior 15-2” and “At Sea Demonstration”.

During the stay in port, September 17 – 21, Captain Angelo Virdis, commanding officer of the unit, and Captain Giuseppe Schivardi, defence attaché in Paris, have met military and civil local authorities, including the vice mayor of the city, Mr. Fortunato Pellicano, the Maritime Prefect for the Atlantic Ocean (CECLANT), Vice Admiral Emmanuel De Olivera, and Gilles Picat, Commanding Officer naval base Brest Marine Nationale.

These highly technical/training activities aim at integrating different air and naval assets. They will involve 30 naval units, 4 submarines, helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, as well as ground troops, all from several different countries.
