Authorities

Improved weather conditions in the Central Mediterranean Sea have led more migrants to embark on the dangerous voyage towards European coasts.

In order to avoid the further loss of life at sea, operation Sophia vessels saved 374 migrants in the last couple of days.

According to EUNAVFOR Med’s press statement, the migrants have been rescued from 4 rubber boats by the German auxiliary ship FGS Berlin and the Slovenian corvette SLS Triglav.

After the rescue operation, all migrants were transferred to other naval assets operating in the area.

The German auxiliary ship Berlin FGS Berlin responded to a call from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre on December 7 and rescued 115 persons.

The rescued persons were transferred from Berlin to the Doctors Without Borders ship Bourbon Argos.
