Three Indian Navy ships, the aircraft carrier Vikramaditya, guided missile destroyer Mysore and the Fincantieri-built replenishment oiler Deepak are scheduled to visit Male, Maldives from February 15 – 18.

The ships are part of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet based at Mumbai.

INS Vikramaditya, one of the two aircraft carriers of the Indian Navy, is capable of operating MiG 29K fighters, KM 31 AEW helicopters, multi-role Seakings and utility Chetaks. Vikramaditya is accompanied by the indigenously constructed INS Mysore and INS Deepak, the Fleet Tanker.

During the visit, the warships will have professional interactions with the Maldives National Defence Force for further enhancing the close co-operation between the two forces. The Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet, Rear Admiral Ravneet Singh, NM, is flying his flag onboard the Vikramaditya.

The Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard, in conjunction with the Maldives National Defence Force, regularly undertake surveillance in the Maldivian exclusive economic zone.
