GALLERY: Warships gather for Indonesian naval exercise Komodo 2016

A number of foreign warships arrived in Padang, West Sumatra, ahead of the opening of the Indonesian-hosted naval exercise Komodo 2016 which is set to start on April 12.

The first Komodo was organized in 2014 and held in Batam, Indonesia. Komodo 14 saw 18 ASEAN-Plus Navies participate in exercises focused on the theme of “Cooperation for Stability”.

Komodo 2016 theme will be “Readiness and Cooperation for Peace” and participating navies will focus on maritime peacekeeping operations scenarios.

The exercise will, among other participants, be attended by ships from the Russian Pacific Fleet and two Chinese vessels, frigate Weifang and rescue vessel Changxingdao.
