Singapore Navy frigate visits Japan on way back from RIMPAC

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN)’s Formidable-class frigate RSS Steadfast made a port call at the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF)’s Yokosuka Naval Base from August 22 to September 5, 2016.

During the port call, RSN Fleet Commander Colonel Cheong Kwok Chien called on Commander-in-Chief of the JMSDF Fleet Vice-Admiral (VADM) Yasuhiro Shigeoka and Commandant of Yokosuka District VADM Tetsuro Doshita.

RSS Steadfast participated in a naval exercise with the JMSDF’s Takanami-class destroyer JS Takanami in conjunction with the port call. The exercise included tactical manoeuvres, communications drills and anti-submarine warfare procedures. As part of the professional exchanges between the two navies, ship visits and a naval aviation workshop were also conducted.

RSS Steadfast recently completed the multinational Rim of the Pacific Exercise (Ex RIMPAC) in Hawaii and is currently on the return leg of its three-month deployment.
