A U.S. Navy T-45C Goshawk training jet aircraft crashed on Tuesday, off the east runway of the Naval Air Station Meridian.

The station reported that the incident occurred during a training flight and that both student and instructor managed to eject before crashing.

After the first responders arrived at the scene the pilots were sent to hospital for evaluations, the U.S. Navy said.

The T-45 Goshawk is a tandem-seat, carrier capable, jet trainer whose mission is to train Navy and Marine Corps pilots.

The aircraft is used for intermediate and advanced portions of the Navy/Marine Corps pilot training program for jet carrier aviation and tactical strike missions.

Two pilots were earlier injured at Naval Station Meridian when another T-45 crashed in September 2016.
