Bush CSG enters US 6th Fleet area of operations

U.S. Navy’s George H.W. Bush carrier strike group entered the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations on January 29, eight days after departing its homeport of Norfolk.

The Bush CSG started its routine deployment on January 21 in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.

The groups consists of the flagship USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), guided-missile cruisers USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) and USS Hue City (CG 66), and DESRON 22 guided-missile destroyers USS Laboon (DDG 58) and USS Truxtun (DDG 103).

The last time GHWBCSG operated in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations was 2014.

Bush CSG is scheduled to continue U.S. efforts of fighting ISIL under operation Inherent Resolve. The U.S. Navy group is expected to be joined by other European vessels on its mission.
