Royal Canadian Navy’s Halifax-class frigate HMCS St. John’s departed Naval Station Halifax on January 16 to join the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1.

The bad weather delayed the frigate’s departure by two hours, but the crew are now en route to Europe where they will represent the Canadian contribution to NATO operations in Central and Eastern Europe as part of the Canadian operation Reassurance.

Last year, St. John’s concluded an identical six-month deployment to operation Reassurance in June 2017 and was replaced by HMCS Charlottetown.

While deployed, HMCS St. John’s conducted operations and took part in multi-national exercises with NATO Allies and partner states.
