US Navy’s Virginia-class attack submarine USS Mississippi (SSN 782) arrived at Fleet Activities Yokosuka on February 12, for the third visit to Japan during her deployment to the Indo-Pacific region.

“This kind of visit strengthens the already positive alliance between the U.S. and Japan through the crews’ interaction with the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force,” the US Navy said in an announcement.

Mississippi’s two previous visits took place on January 22, 2018 and November 6, 2017. In November 2017, the submarine also visited the South Korean Jeju Island.

This is USS Mississippi’s second operational deployment since entering service in June 2012. The Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam-based boat completed her maiden deployment in September 2016 returning from the Western Pacific.
