Kongsberg bags contract for US Naval Strike Missiles
Norwegian Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA) has signed a contract with US-based Raytheon Missile Systems for Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) to the US Navy Over-The-Horizon Weapon System (OTH WS) program.
The deal is valued at NOK 203 million (USD 21.2 million).
As informed, the order is related to the OTH WS framework agreement announced in May 2018 with a total cumulative scope of USD 847 million.
Developed by Kongsberg, NSM is a long-range, precision strike missile that can detect and destroy heavily defended land and sea targets at long distances.
In 2018, the US Navy awarded Raytheon a contract to manufacture and deliver NSM as the navy’s Over-The-Horizon Weapon System for littoral combat ships and future frigates.
In 2019, the USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10) became the first US Navy littoral combat ship to launch the NSM in an integrated setup. The NSM was launched during Pacific Griffin, a biennial exercise conducted near Guam.
