The contract, worth c £45 million, was granted by the UK Ministry of Defence.

The agreement ensures that Babcock delivers the in-service provision of equipment availability, alongside support, maintenance, and refit stores, technical services, and post-design services across the surface ship and submarine fleet.

The equipment includes generators and motor generators which provide all low voltage electrical power to the platform, the associated control equipment to maintain the quality of the power supply, motors for critical equipment such as pumps, air conditioning, and steering and submarine propulsion motors.

Support of MREM is important in maintaining the safety and availability of multiple major Royal Navy assets including the Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD), Babcock reports.

Managing director of Babcock Defence Systems Technology business Richard Drake said: “Delivering Asset Availability Service contracts in support of our customer’s Mission Systems is a core part of our business. Babcock has proven expertise and capability in this area, as recognised by our customer through the recent award of AAS contract extensions to the 4.5 Medium Calibre Gun, Phalanx CIWS, Domestic Equipment and Sea Water Systems. We are absolutely delighted to be expanding this to include the critical support of MREM for the long term, further enhancing our relationship built on strong delivery performance, partnership, innovation and collaboration.”
