As informed, the launching ceremony took place in Ulsan on 10 April. The vessel ROKS Chungnam (FFG-828) is the first out of six new Chungnam-class FFX Batch III frigates.

The ship is 129 meters long, 15 meters wide and weighs 3,600 tons, and can operate at speeds of up to 55 km/h. S

It is equipped with a four-sided fixed multi-function phased array radar capable of 360-degree omnidirectional detection, tracking, and response, greatly enhancing anti-aircraft defense capabilities compared to existing frigates.

The company evaluated that the electric propulsion method that generates less noise by applying the hybrid propulsion system method avoids the threat of detection by submarines, while enabling high-speed navigation using gas turbine propulsion in case of emergency, improving operational performance.

The first ship of this class is slated for delivery at the end of next year after it completes sea trials.

HHI is currently also working on ROKN’s Aegis destroyers, as well as KSS-III submarines.
