The work, part of the ship’s Fiscal Year 2026 docking selected restricted availability (DSRA), will be performed at NASSCO’s San Diego shipyard and is expected to be completed by July 2027.

The contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the total value to $209.23 million.

The contract was awarded through full and open competition on the System for Award Management.

Two offers were received. The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), headquartered in Washington, D.C., is overseeing the contracting activity.

The DSRA period will include extensive modernization and repair efforts, ensuring the USS Americ remains mission-ready for years to come.

The America-class LHA ships are a variant of the Wasp-class LHD amphibious assault ships. The keel-laying ceremony for USS America was held in July 2009. The vessel was delivered in the spring of 2014.

USS America (LHA 6) is the first ship in its class built without a well deck but with a larger hangar and aviation storage, focusing on purely aviation-related capacity. The ships have a crew of 1,204 and can transport up to 1,800 troops and their equipment.
