The launching ceremony for the new vessel took place on August 24, 2025. This is the fifth ship being built by the enterprise for the Russian Navy under the Project 22350 design by the Northern Design Bureau of USC.

The Project 22350 frigates are equipped to provide air defense for other ships, support landing operations, strike various land and sea targets, and conduct anti-submarine warfare. Additionally, the frigate features a helicopter deck capable of accommodating Ka-27 helicopters of different configurations.

The 135-meter frigates displace 5,000 tons and have a cruising range of over 4,000 nautical miles. They are equipped with anti-submarine and anti-ship missiles, a 130mm A-192M naval gun. The frigates also feature the Poliment-Redut naval air defense system. They are armed with high-precision, long-range missile systems, including hypersonic Zircon missiles.

Every weld, every joint reflects the painstaking work of our shipbuilders and their contribution to Russia’s naval power. Tomorrow, the vacated slipway will welcome a new hull, because the shipyard’s work never stops. This is our state mission and tradition, passed down through generations of Severnaya Verf shipbuilders,” said Mikhail Nenyukov, General Director of USC Severnaya Verf.

Admiral Amelko is named after the distinguished Soviet naval commander and candidate of naval sciences, Admiral Nikolai Nikolaevich Amelko. The ship’s godmother is Elena Amelko, the wife of the admiral’s grandson.

Admiral Gorshkov, the lead ship of Project 22350, was commissioned in 2018. The second vessel in this class, Admiral Kasatonov, joined the fleet in 2020.
