As disclosed, the extension allows Raytheon Australia to continue delivering critical combat system capabilities with the Royal Australian Navy. It also supports a robust training pipeline for engineers and technicians as the Navy integrates new capabilities.

Raytheon Australia’s submarine combat system team has supported the Collins Class submarines since their introduction in the mid-1990s. The company will provide ongoing in-service support for the Collins class submarine combat system following a 3-year and 9-month contract extension.

The team operates mainly from Perth’s Henderson Shipyard and HMAS Stirling, with additional services provided from Osborne Shipyard in Adelaide and Raytheon Australia offices in Sydney.

Core elements of the combat system management framework contract include combat system integration and manager services, architecture and design, upgrades and updates, implementation and coordination of the AN/BYG-1 system, wharf-side and deployable technical support, and procurement, warehousing and freight services.

Collins-class submarines are the diesel‑electric attack submarines operated by the Royal Australian Navy. Each has a submerged displacement of approximately 3,407 tonnes, a length of 77.8 m, and a top submerged speed of around 20 knots. They feature a highly automated hull and control system, low acoustic signature, and an advanced combat system integrating sensors and weapons for anti‑surface and anti‑submarine warfare.

The Australian government has committed to sustainment and upgrade programs, including a life‑of‑type extension (LOTE) planned to the 2040s.
