BAE Systems’ San Diego shipyard has received two US Navy contracts totalling $98 million to perform scheduled modernization work aboard the littoral combat ship USS Kansas City (LCS 22) and the guided missile destroyer USS Stockdale (DDG 106).

Under a $37 million docking selected restricted availability (DSRA) contract, BAE Systems will drydock USS Kansas City and carry out a range of maintenance and upgrade activities.

The work will include underwater hull preservation, upgrades to onboard systems, and refurbishment of living spaces for the ship’s 41 crewmembers. The 2,550-ton trimaran vessel is scheduled to enter the shipyard in May 2026.

BAE Systems has also been awarded a $61 million DSRA contract for USS Stockdale, with work set to begin in May 2026.

Maintenance on the 9,200-ton destroyer will include underwater hull preservation, reconditioning of the ship’s superstructure, refurbishment of interior fuel and ballast tanks, and upgrades to crew living spaces. The work will be performed at the company’s Southern California shipyard.

USS Kansas City is the 12th ship of the Independence-class littoral combat ships and the third US Navy vessel named after Missouri’s largest city.

USS Stockdale is the 56th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer. Commissioned in April 2009, the ship is named in honor of Vice Admiral James B. Stockdale (1923–2005), a Medal of Honor recipient.

“Our team looks forward to executing the scheduled maintenance work aboard the Kansas City and Stockdale,” said Eric Icke, vice president and general manager of BAE Systems Maritime Solutions San Diego.

“Working alongside Navy personnel and our subcontractor teammates, our shipyard team will apply our Navy ship repair expertise to ensure both ships return to the fleet capable to fulfill our nation’s requirements.”
