Saab has unveiled the Sea Giraffe Agile Multi Beam D (AMB D), a new naval radar designed to give maritime forces enhanced 3D surveillance and tracking of air and surface threats in increasingly contested environments.
The Sea Giraffe AMB D is a maritime 3D surveillance radar intended to detect, track, and classify air and surface targets, including aircraft, drones, missiles, and crewed or uncrewed vessels. It has a stated maximum range of 250 km against air targets and 50 km against surface targets.
The system provides target data intended to support early warning and decision-making in naval and multi-domain operations. It incorporates electronic counter-countermeasures designed to reduce the effect of jamming, and its modular, software-defined architecture is intended to allow integration with other naval systems and future upgrades.saab+1
Saab describes the radar as a C-band, multi-channel digital AESA system with simultaneous air and surface surveillance capabilities.
“Sea Giraffe AMB D takes a proven naval radar capability to the next level, combining increased performance with a low footprint and an architecture built for continuous development. It is designed to meet the demands of today’s naval forces while giving customers the flexibility to evolve with future threats,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance.
