Sri Lanka Navy Assists in Disaster Management in Southern Province

The Sri Lanka Navy deployed three ships and two Fast Attack Craft to facilitate disaster management and rescue operations in the areas affected by the bad weather in the Southern Province on 26th November 2011.

Most of the coastal areas of the Southern Province including Galle, Matara and many other townships in the coastal belt, were devastated by a sudden bad weather condition accompanied by strong winds. The Navy has promptly deployed three ships SLNS Sagara,SLNS Shakthi,SLNS Ranawickrama and two Fast Attack Craft for the rescue and search operations, conducted in the affected sea areas, in search of missing fishermen. The rescue and search operation is still being carried out looking for any survivors.
