Commanding Officer of USS The Sullivans Relieved of Duty

The Commanding Officer of USS The Sullivans (DDG 68), was relieved of command May 8, 2012, by Commander, U.S. Sixth Fleet, Vice Adm. Frank C. Pandolfe due to loss of confidence in his ability to command.

Cmdr. Derick Armstrong was relieved as a result of an unprofessional command climate that was contrary to good order and discipline.

Cmdr. Armstrong, who took command of USS The Sullivans Nov. 7, 2011, has been administratively reassigned to the staff of Destroyer Squadron 14.

Capt. John Esposito, deputy commander, Destroyer Squadron 60, has temporarily assumed command of USS The Sullivans until a permanent replacement is assigned. Esposito previously commanded the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Donald Cook (DDG 75).
