In keeping with tradition, a commemorative plaque containing information about the date and place of construction was attached to an element of the future frigate’s keel structure. Following this, the section was placed onto the ship’s hull.

The new frigate is named in honor of Felix Nikolayevich Gromov, a Soviet and Russian naval commander and the first Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy. In 1996, he was awarded the rank of Admiral of the Fleet, the highest naval rank in the Russian Navy.

Project 22350 frigates are designed to perform a wide range of missions in the far sea zone. Ships of this class take part in protecting state borders, escorting and defending civilian vessels, ensuring the security of Russia’s maritime economic activities, as well as carrying out patrol duties and air defense, anti-submarine warfare, and missile defense missions.

“Project 22350 frigates have successfully proven themselves to be reliable warships with significant strike, defensive, and search capabilities. They are equipped to carry all types of missile weaponry. The Russian Navy’s requirement for ships of this class remains extremely urgent, and the existing frigate construction plans and programs will undoubtedly be fulfilled,” stated Admiral Aleksandr Moiseyev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy.

During the ceremony, deputy CEO for Military Shipbuilding and Special Programs at the United Shipbuilding Corporation, Andrey Bogomolov, highlighted the importance of industrial cooperation in building the ship.

“The key to success in constructing this ship lies in the close cooperation between the corporation’s enterprises and our partners. Dozens of research institutes and hundreds of companies and organizations across the country are involved in its creation. Only domestic technologies and materials will be used during construction, which is especially important for ensuring Russia’s technological sovereignty,” he said.

The Project 22350 frigates are equipped to provide air defense for other ships, support landing operations, strike various land and sea targets, and conduct anti-submarine warfare. Additionally, the frigate features a helicopter deck capable of accommodating Ka-27 helicopters of different configurations.

The 135-meter frigates displace 5,000 tons and have a cruising range of over 4,000 nautical miles. They are equipped with anti-submarine and anti-ship missiles, a 130mm A-192M naval gun. The frigates also feature the Poliment-Redut naval air defense system. They are armed with high-precision, long-range missile systems, including hypersonic Zircon missiles.
