Navy Arrests Persons Attempting to Flee to India

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Thammanna of the North-Central Naval Command, arrested 8 Tamil persons who had attempted to leave for India illegally on 23rd July 2012.

The arrest was made at Urumalai when they were about to board a fishing vessel, which had been made ready for the illegal journey. Among the persons, who were arrested, were 2 male adults, 2 women and 4 children (3boys and 1 girl).

During the preliminary investigations, it was revealed that the group belonged to 02 families and one person was in possession of 3 forged passports. They had planned to head for Australia after reaching India. The arrested persons were handed over to Thalai-mannar Police for further investigations.
