Naval Ship 'Shardul' Rescues Maldivian Nationals
‘RANKURI’, a 95 feet long Maldivian mechanical boat, with four personnel onboard, reported missing at sea off the Southern coast of Maldives since 17 Sep 12 was rescued by Indian Naval Ship ‘INS Shardul’ on 20 Sep 12.
On a request from the Maldivian authorities on 19 Sep 12, the Indian Navy diverted INS Shardul deployed for EEZ surveillance off Maldives. The missing boat ‘Rankuri’ estimated to be around 200 Nautical Miles South of Male, was located after an intensive search operation using the ships helicopter. The boat’s safe return to Maldives was ensured by providing the boat with necessary technical assistance.
It may be recalled that IN is deploying ships and aircraft for EEZ patrol off Maldivian waters as requested by the Maldivian Government. During such patrols personnel of Maldivian National Defence Force (MNDF) are also embarked onboard.
