USA: GDBIW Lands DDG 51, FFG 7 Contract

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works has received a USD 70.4 million contract to exercise option year 1 for DDG 51 and FFG 7 class integrated planning yard services.

The DDG51 is the United States Navy’s first class of destroyer built around the Aegis Combat System and the SPY-1D multi-function phased array radar. The class is named after Admiral Arleigh Burke, the most famous American destroyer officer of World War II, and later Chief of Naval Operations.

The FFG-47 is third-generation guided missile frigate of the  Oliver Hazard Perry-class, laid down as Bath Iron Works hull number 388 on 27 September 1982 and launched on 23 April 1983.

Under the contract Bath Iron Works is going to provide expert design, planning and material support services for both maintenance and modernization.

The work will be performed in Bath, Maine, and is expected to complete by December 2013.
